Teaching
In
addition to her active performing schedule Anja Strauss is equally in
demand as a teacher.
As a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing she maintains a thriving private voice studio in San Francisco
and serves on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Preparatory Division and Adult Extension and the San Francisco State University. She has also taught at Saint Mary's College of California LEAP Program, and she works as a German diction coach at the San Francisco Opera. Her students have appeared in various performances, e.g. the San Francisco Lyric Opera Chorus, the San Francisco Symphony Chorus as well as at the NATS annual Singing Festival and have continued to study at New York's Manhattan School of Music and San Francisco State University among others.
Besides her popular classes at the Adult Extension at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Anja Strauss offers private voice lessons to anyone above the age of 16 who is interested in learning how to sing with a good and healthy technique- regardless of past training or level of experience. She specializes in teaching proper breathing, improving vocal technique through vocalises and work on songs and arias. She also enjoys sharing her expertise in master class settings.
She is happy to assist in choosing appropriate repertoire, with focused attention on the student's individual needs and goals: such as preparing for auditions, concerts or singing for one's own personal joy and fulfillment. She also enjoys guiding one's preparation for an operatic role and presentation of a character on stage. Additionally, she is an expert with foreign language diction, most specifically the European Romance languages: Italian, French, Spanish and German.
